Spectral Response Machine Vision Cameras

For applications where it is necessary to view Ultra Violet or Infra Red light spectrums, cameras with a higher spectral response are required. Silicon is responsive to Infra Red light up to around 1060nm, any wavelength above this requires special sensors. Most cameras are sensitive to Ultra Violet light down to about 400nm, at this point the protective glass in front of the sensor begins to block the light. Sensitivity around 200nm can be achieved if this glass is replaced with Quartz.

Prolonged exposure to Ultra Violet light under 400nm can degrade the polymer micro lenses of the sensor turning them opaque. Sensors can be provided without these micro lenses but it is recommended that these be kept for applications where the light wavelength is down to 280nm.
